How To Download Dragon Universe

In this post we will talk about our Dragon Universe launcher, and the reasons behind our decision to create our own launcher instead of purely relying on BYOND's external game engine launcher.

Player Friction

In the past, it was incredibly hard to get newer players onto Dragon Universe, this is because there was a lot of friction before you can play the game; they'd have to figure out what BYOND is, navigating it's outdated website, install BYOND, create a BYOND account all before even finding Dragon Universe buried under 20 other games.

Our launcher aims to solve this problem, a one click download on a clean website thats for Dragon Universe only. Players can create 'DUAccounts', and join the game with a aesthetically pleasing launcher that has many more features catered towards the game such as: Patch Notes, Guides, Game Shop, Discord links & many more.

Fault Proof

Unfortunately, BYOND is no longer reliable. In 2025, BYOND had an issue with it's servers being down for roughly four weeks, locking out most players from playing the game. Our new launcher is truly standalone allowing you to access the game regardless of whether BYOND is up or down, as it uses our own internal servers for authentication. No longer are the days where we are trapped by BYOND faults.

Advertisements & Player Retention

In combination with our new website, the launcher will better aid our advertisement efforts allowing us to attract new players by making it easier to get in the game. Our highly share-able website in combination with advertisements, blog posts, and patch notes contribute greatly to tracking the effectiveness of advertisement campaigns. It also allows us to retain more players through ease of use in getting what you need.

Auto Patching & Extra Features

With our new launcher, it opens up the possibility of adding new features such as friends lists, lobby chat, among many other features. The limitations are really endless. It also allows us to serve the best version of the game to all players at once as our launcher supports auto-patching whereby it will automatically update the game when necessary. Players can

Backwards Compatibility

While a BYOND account is no longer necessary to play the game, the launcher has backwards compatibility capable of detecting your BYOND accounts used on the device and allowing you to login to those characters after you have created a DUAccount. This allows the launcher to be used for both newer players and older players.

Limitations: The launcher currently does not support alt accounts. You can only have one player logged in at a time. Unfortunately, if you would like to play on multiple accounts simultaneously you will have to use BYOND, or use BYOND to login to the accounts while using the launcher still to log in the game.

Note: The launcher still supports multiple characters and accounts as it has access to your BYOND accounts but it is not possible to have them on at the same time.
